Meet our Team
We are exceptionally proud of the dedicated team of professionals that make up the staff of Proper Pilates. Headed by our Program Director, Wade Edwell, the staff of PP combine to bring you nearly 60 years of experience working in movement and Pilates, with further backgrounds in Dance, Exercise Physiology, and Teaching.
Wade Edwell
B. Dance (Distinction), WA Academy of Performing Arts
B. Marketing, QUT
Australasia’s only Graduate of The Work, Vintage Pilates
APMA Comprehensive Certification
Wade has been teaching and performing movement for nearly 20 years, and Pilates since 2003. Most significantly, he is the only 2nd Generation teacher working in Australasia that is certified by Jay Grimes (who worked with Joseph Pilates), and a major component of his work is in educating teachers in Jay’s methodology. Wade also holds comprehensive certification from the Australian Pilates Method Association, and has worked across clinical, sports specific, and rehabilitative training areas.
Through Proper Pilates he brings these vast experiences together and carries this forward to both clients and teachers, raising awareness that traditional Pilates exists beyond the ‘exercises,’ in a deeper appreciation and application of the philosophies of Contrology for each and every unique, individual person.
Trevor Buckingham
B. Dance, Victorian College of the Arts
Graduate Diploma of Teaching, Edith Cowan University
B. Clinical Exercise Physiology (Pending), University of New England
Peak Pilates Certified
Born and raised in Trentham, Trevor brings to his craft over two decades of movement teaching and experience, having both danced and taught dance since his early teens. His passion for fine arts dance led him to complete a Bachelor of Dance through the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), and this is where he first encountered Pilates, subsequently certifying with Peak Pilates, and mentoring with Wade Edwell since 2006.
Aside from working in Pilates and Dance, Trevor has held Head of Department positions at Meredin Senior College and Albert Park College, and is now completing further studies in Clinical Exercise Physiology through the University of New England.
Rachael Meldrum
B. Dance, Victorian College of the Arts
Comprehensive Certification, National Pilates Training
Rachael began Pilates in 2008 as a means to addressing a chronic injury developed from a lifetime of dance training. She was hooked when after a short time the pain decreased and she was stronger and more centred. The same year she completed her comprehensive Pilates Instruction through National Pilates Training, whilst working full time in Human Resources.
Having worked for a variety of studios, Rachael feels she is now 'home' at Proper Pilates and has developed a love for the Classical system. She met Wade and Trevor in 2015 and was instantly drawn to their dynamism. She started working for them soon after, whilst knee deep raising three boys under five years old during her last pregnancy. After a break, and now with four sons, she is excited to be back teaching in the studio.
